Brunei Food: Love At First Taste

Mee Goreng
Mee Goreng
I arrived in Brunei in the midyear of 2005 and the first food I ever tasted is the fried Mee Goreng with chicken. It's made of noodles with chicken, stir fry with sprouted beans and green vegetables. I wasn't sure if I like the taste that time because it was different from the usual food I eat in the Philippines but I find myself ordering the same thing everytime I go out and eat with my friends.

Brunei Foods are not much difference from other countries in Asia, especially South East Asia countries and greatly influenced by neighbouring Malaysia and Singapore, as well as the many ethnic Chinese living there.

Most of the local Brunei foods are spicy and they have popular dishes too.these might not be the best for you but you can take a note to remember the dish names that you found interesting. We do have Beef Rendang which is made of beef and aromatic smell of Rendang sauce itself, Nasi Lemak which is one of the famous food here in Brunei. It's made of chicken with some Sambal sauce and usually they add up some dried small fish and fried it.

Murtabak is usually serve with some curry sauce and famous in most of the Indian restaurants here in Brunei. Mee Goreng is one of my favorite food to eat. It's fried noodles with some veggies and meat.

Mangoes with Sticky Rice,Soto, Kurma, Kolo Mee, Daging Masal Lada Hitum, Bak Kut Teh and a lot more are famous in Brunei as well.

Brunei Foods are delicious and great if you are adventurous in taste. After almost 7 years of staying here, I find Brunei foods good to eat and I even miss the authentic taste they have if I'm overseas or spending holidays back in the Philippines.

Oh,by the way, before I forgot, Brunei foods are not just delicious but it is affordable. that's one thing I love in this country. Everything is just a pack of punch when you talk about foods.

I enjoy my Sundays off day in the afternoon when I go to out to what they call here,"Tamu". It's where the place you can eat all the foods you missed to eat in a very affordable prices. It's like street foods in the Philippines.you got it all in there. You can really feel the different taste and surely enjoy your meal!

I'll publish on my future posts my stories of more delicious Brunei Foods that I want to share to all of you.

Thank you and have a nice eating day!
